I decided to make this project in response to the abundant uncomfortable situations I've experienced in queer communities regarding my identity. As a bisexual person who does not fit a seemingly expected femme or butch aesthetic, I've often been marked as not gay enough and subjected to various acts of violence based on my sexuality and appearance. I began speaking about this with trusted friends and quickly found out that they too had experienced their queer communities not accepting them based on parts of their diverse identities. I want to maximize this conversation. I want to reach queer people who do not feel accepted in spaces that they thought could be their home. I want to share your experiences while celebrating your beautiful queerness. Each participant has shared photos and statements with me in various forms. I've then created photo graphics depicting their statements and experiences.
Please click on each person's graphic to read their statements. As well, please reach out if you would like to be part of this ongoing project.
